Right Whales, Far From Japan, Still Being Wronged

Tuesday 18 November 2008 @ 12:43 pm

Right whales off North America’s east coast are dwindling to dangerous levels - nearing extinction with only 350 to 400 North Atlantic whales alive today.

One thing the government did do right was make ships coming in and out of Charleston slow down to 10 knots.

Even though they are far away from the international law-breaking Japanese whale hunters, their newest enemy is our own government. Just recently, the Supreme Court sided with the Navy for a sonar training range which harms marine wildlife according to many environmentalists.

International Whaling Commission logoWith funding by NOAA Fisheries, (another arm of Uncle Sam) Wildlife Trust is busy right now monitoring the last known calving grounds of the N.A. right whales. As this imagery shows, the calving grounds extend from the upper half of Florida to North Carolina.

Here’s to hoping their research is successful so another generation can see these awesome creatures.

SC Cities: $700B Handout? No Thanks!

Sunday 16 November 2008 @ 6:42 am

Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville are three cities here at home not contributing to our national debt.

“Its always easier to spend somebody else’s money,” said SC Gov. Sanford.

While it’s apparent that the country needs some help right now, it’s good to see that our local South Carolina governments are looking out for our own interests first.SC flag

From reduced spending, exercising some fiscal restraint, and taking advantage of reserve funds, our cities are going to make it through just fine without incurring more debt.

I just wish they’d put more pressure on those DHEC screwups.
